The Office of Statewide Pretrial Services’ (OSPS or Office) is a statewide office that provides pretrial services under the Pretrial Services Act, 725 ILCS 185. The Office’s mission is to assist in the administration of justice and promote community safety by ensuring fairness and equality in the pretrial process. OSPS prepares pretrial investigation reports for the courts and supervises individuals released from custody as directed by the court.

The Deputy Region Chief assists the Region Chief in overseeing the delivery of pretrial services within the Office of Statewide Pretrial Services (OSPS) jurisdictions. The Deputy Region Chief assists the Region Chief by analyzing data, participating the hiring process and completing performance evaluations.

Current Available Shift:

Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM

*Shift will be determined to fit operational needs of the court which may include working weekends.

Functions Include

  • Serves as a supervisor by providing instructions, setting expectations, observing performance, providing feedback through ongoing and annual performance evaluations and recommending corrective or disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Implements OSPS policies and procedures within the Region and reports overall progress to the Region Chief
  • Reviews pretrial service delivery within the Region for compliance with OSPS policies and procedures.
  • Evaluates the workloads and resource needs of the Region.
  • Regularly audits and reviews the work of Pretrial Services Officers with an emphasis on improving outcomes to assure compliance with the Pretrial Services Act and court mandates.
  • Orients and oversees the training of new Pretrial Services Officers in pretrial assessments, pretrial reports, and appropriate pretrial supervision.
  • Works with Pretrial Services Officers to develop individual training plans for areas in which they need improvement and monitors progress of training plan implementation.
  • Participates in the hiring process for pretrial services officers and field supervisors.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with criminal justice partners within the Region.
  • Maintains up-to-date working knowledge of pretrial services and related criminal justice and community corrections issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

Minimum Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice or a social services related field from an accredited institution.
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Two or more years professional working experience in a public or private organization.
  • Two or more years of professional working experience within the criminal justice system including community corrections, law enforcement, law, or trial court administration.
  • Two or more years providing social services, such as mental health or substance abuse treatment, to justice involved individuals.
  • One year of experience in pretrial services.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to positively and professionally interact with co-workers.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Effective oral and written communication, presentation, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize, implement, and maintain a variety of functions and projects simultaneously and meet required deadlines and schedules.
  • Ability to positively and professionally interact with co-workers.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills including planning and priority setting, sound decision-making, problem-solving, and analytic and interpretive skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended time periods.
  • Normal office working environment requiring telephone usage and ability to process written documents.
  • Travel within Illinois required.
